Teaching roles are 10-month positions, which are exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Middle School Math Teachers at Capital City:
Plan for and teach four daily classes of 8th Grade Algebra and 8th Grade Mathematics; classes have approximately 20 students each.
Develop rigorous curriculum to ensure students master grade level standards and develop a strong foundation grounded in the Standards of Mathematical Practice.
Utilize a workshop model to differentiate instruction for diverse learners and promote student engagement.
Work collaboratively with a special educator to plan and deliver co-taught lessons within an inclusion model.
Establish a strong classroom culture using the principles of Restorative Justice.
Plan and teach a daily Math Intensive primarily focused on math skill development using a blending learning platform.
Develop learning expeditions and engaging projects to deepen understanding and make real world connections.
Regularly assess student progress and use data to plan for instruction.
Meet and plan regularly with a grade level team.
Serve as a Crew Leader to 10-12 students by leading a daily crew time that supports a strong social curriculum and promotes the school’s community values, and regularly communicating with parents.
Involve students in fieldwork and meaningful service that deepens understanding and interest.
Support students with developing portfolios and completing a rigorous 8th grade portfolio passage process where students demonstrate their readiness for high school.
Be an active participant in ongoing professional development that includes a weekly professional development time and a summer institute.
Collaborate with a vertical math team to ensure strong alignment across our K-12 program and a whole school focus on best practices.
Capital City seeks to employ experienced, credentialed teachers. Ideal candidates have a Master’s degree and 3+ years of full-time teaching experience.
Minimum required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least one of the following:
A major in education or field of instruction or equivalent 30 semester hours of credit
District of Columbia teaching license in field of instruction
Two years of verifiable teaching experience as a teacher of record
One year as a support teacher at Capital City and enrollment in a teacher education or certification program
In addition to the above requirements, teachers must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a criminal background check and a negative TB test.
