ABOUT MERIDIAN PCS
Meridian is a PreK-8th grade school with an elementary campus located in Washington DC’s vibrant U Street Corridor and a middle school campus a few blocks up the road in Columbia Heights. Our mission is to inspire a passion for learning in our students and to help them build their self-confidence and self-respect through academic achievement.
Our 650+ students are a diverse mix of African-American, Latino, Asian, African, and White students. Almost 30% of our students are English language learners, and we serve one of the largest Latinx populations in DC charter schools. Meridian is committed to serving our local community, and one-third of our students live within a half mile of our campuses. ABOUT THE POSITION
Meridian seeks a Long-term Substitute Teacher for SY2021-22. The ideal candidate will have classroom teaching experience, preferably within an urban school setting. The long-term substitute teacher position is a full-time, 10-month position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Long-term Substitute Teacher is responsible for the following:
Implementing the curriculum and utilizing classroom routines and procedures with consistency
Developing lesson plans, homework assignments and assessments
Presenting academic content through a variety of instructional strategies to reach all learners
Communicating and enforcing high expectations and standards for behavior and academic
Participating in professional development to learn best practices in teaching Common Core standards.
Forming and maintain relationships with students and their families, including phone calls and conferences.
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required
Classroom teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred
Possess a commitment to educating students for academic achievement and empowering students to make healthy lifestyle choices
Believe in the capacity of every student for high academic achievement and a commitment to creating a highly-structured, effective, and fun learning environment
Receptiveness to feedback and a desire to continuously improve
