Middle School Social Worker/ Counselor

Position Overview: This position entails providing behavioral support counseling services to students with IEPs and 504 plans at DCI to promote a positive educational environment for all students. This position will also collaborate with appropriate personnel to ensure positive educational and counseling practices for the students.
Social Worker/Counselors report to work on August 1st.
Salary Range: $58,437 - $98,958 (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience)
Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish (preferred). A Master's Degree in secondary education or this content area is preferred (Bachelor's Degree is required). Appropriate training and licensure (LCP) is preferred. Ability to meet HQT requirements under NCLB
Experience as a related service provider, secondary experience preferred. Experience working closely with diverse families of students with disabilities. Knowledge about special education and 504 practices and regulations, particularly those pertaining to DC schools. The ability to collaborate and work as part of a team
Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong interest in, or experience with, language immersion, 1:1 technology, and IB Middle Years Program model. Commitment to keeping current on best practices and evidence-based interventions in special education, technology, and general education. Commitment to ensuring access and achievement for our learners with exceptional learning needs.
Essential Attributes:
Provide direct support services to individual students, small groups, and classrooms, including through group and individual therapy and classroom support.
Document all services in EasyIEP (special education database)
Develop present levels, goals, and progress notes for students on caseload.
Complete assessments, referrals, and counseling with students and families.
Provide crisis intervention.
Monitor student attendance and implement attendance interventions as needed for students on caseload.
Develop and maintain family outreach programs and community partnerships.
Serve as a member of the family support team and other school based teams.
Serve as school liaison to social service agencies.
Collaborate with general and special educators, coordinators, and leadership.
Communicate through a variety of mediums with parents and students.
Embrace French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures by leading and participating in cultural activities for faculty and students Other duties as assigned.
High degree of communication through a variety of mediums with parents and students.
Ensure that our 1:1 Chromebooks program is implemented effectively for students by infusing technology into instruction.
