Therapeutic Behavioral Aides

The Children’s Guild DC Public Charter School is seeking a patient, dedicated compassionate, and self-motivated Therapeutic Behavioral Aide (TBA) to provide one-on-one classroom support to students with emotional and behavioral challenges. This support could be physical, emotional, and/or mental. Under the Principal’s leadership, the TBA will serve as part of a team of educators and senior staff members. This position can be tough but very rewarding. Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, High School diploma or equivalent qualification
Successfully passing ParaPro Assessment is a plus!
18 years of age or older
1-2 years’ experience as a teaching assistant or working in a childcare setting is preferred
Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices
Ability to create a positive, engaging learning environment
Must have a positive attitude and excellent written and verbal communication skills
Outstanding interpersonal and presentation abilities
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Ability to fluently speak, read, and write English
Must be able to safely lift a minimum of 40 pounds and work indoors or outdoors
Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children
Must see and hear well enough to keep children safe and engage in physical activity with them
Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in English, proficiency in Spanish a plus
Supervise and manage student behavior in the classroom and throughout the school.
Provide a consistent, reliable, and supportive presence in the classroom.
Escort assigned student to all in-school activities.
Accurately and completely record student’s progress in a timely manner.
Model positive behaviors and attitudes to assists creating and maintaining a positive culture.
Adhere to safety rules to ensure students’ safety and security, providing crisis intervention when necessary.
