Campus Updates
First, AppleTree Early Learning PCS is adding another facility to the DC map—making public charter schools now fill every ward! Its Oklahoma Avenue campus will open a facility 8.1 miles away, at 4900 Massachusetts Avenue NW.
Briya PCS is relocating one of its facilities. Their Petworth North campus, currently located at 4300 13th St NW, will move to 801 Shepherd St NW, Washington, DC 20011.
Finally, Latin American Montessoir Bilingual PCS will operate at one location, located at 5000 14th Street, NW Washington, DC 20011.
Transitions
Two Rivers PCS is welcoming a new Executive Director, Belicia Reeves, for the 2023-24 school year.
Capital City Public Charter School is also welcoming new leadership. Laina Cox, the school’s founding middle school principal, became the new Head of School this summer, making waves as the school’s first Black leader. Justin Lopez-Cardoze, another trailblazer who will be the school’s first Latino lead, stepped into the Middle School Principal role.
Finally, two schools will have interim leaders as they find their permanent head of schools.
Former Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom PCS–Brookland Campus director Bobby Caballero has stepped up as Interim Chief following the departure of the school’s Executive Director. At the SEED School, former Director of Student Life, Christopher Rooks, has assumed the role of Interim Head of School, alongside guidance from the school’s Maryland campus Co-Head of School, Erika Asikoye.
School Health Requirements
Per DC law, all students entering public and public charter schools must present a valid written immunization certification before the first day of classes, unless they have obtained a medical or religious exemption. This documentation must attest that the student has been successfully immunized per the Department of Health’s requirements.

To help families fulfill immunization requirements, DC Health is hosting pop up School-Based Vaccine Centers through August 25, 2023.
Any DC resident aged 3 and older can schedule an appointment to receive school-required vaccines, including routine pediatric vaccines and the Covid-19 vaccine for students over age 12.
