June 26 Board Meeting: Lessons Learned, Mission Renewed

July 2, 2026

The theme of the June 26 board meeting was Lessons Learned, Mission Renewed, with a focus on looking back on what we’re most proud of this year, and how we can use that momentum to prepare for the future.

“As the 2025–26 school year comes to a close, tonight gives us an opportunity to reflect on what we've accomplished —from the work led by our professional staff to the important decisions made by this Board—and to consider the lessons we've learned as we renew our commitment and prepare for the work ahead,” said Dr. Michelle Walker-Davis, DC PCSB Executive Director.

During the meeting, the Board celebrated and honored board member Lea Crusey, recognizing her accomplishments as this was her last meeting with DC PCSB as she wraps up her board service.

“Lea has been a partner throughout my entire tenure on this Board. She has brought wisdom, integrity, and thoughtfulness to every discussion. She challenged us to think deeply and listen thoughtfully as we pursued our decision making,” said DC PCSB Board Chair Shukurat Adamoh-Faniyan.

“Everything you do and the way you deal with other people is inflected with grace, kindness, and care. That just reflects on your character as a person. We noticed, thank you,” said Board Member Jim Sandman.

As the meeting continued, revisions to both the ASPIRE Policy & Technical Guide and the Charter Goals Policy were approved, along with two new policies: the School Reorganization Policy and the School Expansion Policy.

The School Finance Team also provided a report on the Fiscal Year 2025 Financial Analysis Report (FAR) and the Financial Oversight Policy, which is intended to more clearly define the circumstances under which a school’s charter may be revoked for financial reasons, was opened for public comment.

The Board also approved the following:

Charter Amendments

  • Center City Public Charter School (PCS) – ASPIRE Adoption
  •  Goodwill Excel PCS – Goals
  • Shining Stars PCS – Temporary Charter Agreement Extension in Probationary Status

Charter Renewal Agreements

  • Inspired Teaching PCS
  • Mundo Verde PCS
  • Next Step PCS
  • Richard Wright PCS
