2017 PARCC
Students at DC public charter schools continue to improve on the nationwide Partnership for Assessment of Readiness in College and Careers (PARCC) test. This is the 10th consecutive year public charter school students have shown steady improvement on the statewide assessment, first on the DC-CAS and more recently the PARCC.
According to data released by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), 30% of public charter school students achieved 4 or 5 on the English Language Arts (ELA) assessment in grades 3-8 and 22% in high school. On the Math assessment, 28% achieved 4 or 5 in grades 3-8 and 14% in high school.
The PARCC results reflect 15,660 public charter school students who took the ELA and Math assessments. Every year, public charter schools are enrolling more economically disadvantaged, At-Risk and Special Education students.
Public charter schools educate a student body that is 76% African American and 48% At-Risk, with both populations outperforming the District:

Grades 3-8
The number of students in grades 3-8 met or exceeded expectations, scoring a 4 or 5, on the ELA and Math assessments this year remained constant. Specifically, 29% of public charter school students scored a 4 or 5 on the ELA assessment and 28% of public charter school students scored a 4 or 5 on the Math assessment.
High School
The number of students in high school met or exceeded expectations, scoring a 4 or 5, decreased by one percentage point on ELA and increased by 3 percentage points on the Math assessments. Specifically, 22% of public charter school students scored a 4 or 5 on the ELA assessment and 13% of public charter school students scored a 4 or 5 on the Math assessment.
