April 27 Board Meeting Recap: Advancing Transparency, Strengthening Trust

April 30, 2026

At the April 27 meeting, the DC Public Charter School Board centered its work on a guiding theme: Transparency and Trust, reinforcing its commitment to accountability, clarity, and strong outcomes for students across the District.

Board Chair Adamoh-Faniyan opened the meeting by welcoming fellow Board members and acknowledging the passing of former Board Chair Darren Woodruff. She honored his legacy of principled leadership and deep dedication to students and school quality, noting the lasting impact of his service on the Board’s work today.

Chair Adamoh-Faniyan also recognized the significant effort of school leaders and staff in preparing for a full agenda. She underscored that transparency and trust are essential to effective oversight, ensuring that communities can clearly understand how decisions are made and how schools are held accountable.

The Board’s agenda reflected this commitment, including charter reviews and  renewals for three schools. In her remarks, Executive Director Dr. Michelle Walker-Davis highlighted how DC PCSB is making its work more accessible and easier for the public to understand.

“We aim to make as much information as possible available through our website and in our Board meeting materials. These resources are designed to make our work more understandable and accessible to the public.”

Dr. Walker-Davis also acknowledged the advocacy of school leaders who recently testified before the DC Council, emphasizing the importance of elevating the needs of students and schools in budget discussions. Dr. Walker Davis expressed appreciation for Mayor Bowser’s proposed 2.55 percent increase to the Uniform Per Student Funding Formula (UPSFF), while also noting the importance of directing all school funding through the formula to ensure equity and clarity.

“I wish the Mayor’s budget had run all school funding through the UPSFF. I stand with charter school leaders on this point, and I shared that perspective in my testimony before the Council.”

The meeting also included a public hearing on two key policies, the School Expansion Policy and the School Reorganization Policy, both informed by earlier engagement with relevant parties. In addition, the Board opened the ASPIRE Policy and Technical Guide and the Charter Goals Policy for public comment, continuing to invite community voice into its decision-making process.

At the April meeting, the Board approved the following:

  • Global Citizens Public Charter School – Five Year Review

  • Inspired Teaching Public Charter School – 15-Year Renewal

  • Mundo Verde Public Charter School – 15-Year Review
