Washington, D.C. — DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) voted August 19 to approve the renewed charter of Maya Angelou Public Charter School (“Maya Angelou PCS”) to operate its alternative High School and Young Adult Learning Center campuses for a 15-year term. After a thorough review of the school’s renewal petition, PCSB determined the charter should be renewed based on the school’s overall academic, fiscal performance and compliance.
Maya Angelou PCS – High School is an alternative education program in Ward 7 serving students in 9th – 12th grades, and in the 2012-13 school year enrolled 298 students. In its first year of operation, the Maya Angelou PCS – Young Adult Learning Center, an adult education program also located in Ward 7, served 82 students aged 17-24.
Maya Angelou PCS was one of nine 15-year renewals PCSB completed in the 2012-13 cycle. To read Maya Angelou PCS’ 15-year renewal report to the Board click this link .
