DC PCSB Celebrates Launch of the Capital Math Collective

December 8, 2025

The DC Public Charter School Board is proud to join city leaders and education partners in launching the Capital Math Collective, a $20 million public-private partnership dedicated to accelerating math achievement for students in the city. This cross-sector effort builds on the District’s recent gains in student learning and emphasizes that strong math instruction is essential to every child’s future.

Designed to support students in Grades 3–8, the Collective brings together DC public charter schools, DC public schools, nonprofits, and families to elevate math teaching and learning. The initiative will expand evidence-based tutoring to thousands of  students, strengthen instructional leadership for math teachers, and promote innovative practices through shared learning across sectors. It will also deepen family engagement through math nights, competitions, and enrichment opportunities.

“Math achievement is essential to a student’s future, and the District is taking a proactive approach to ensuring success for all scholars,” said Dr. Michelle Walker-Davis, DC PCSB Executive Director. “This collaborative effort highlights what is possible when we work together.”

The Capital Math Collective will elevate DC as a national leader in math instruction and innovation by accelerating post-pandemic growth. It includes the following public charter schools: Capital City, Center City, Cesar Chavez, DC Scholars, Digital Pioneers, Friendship, Inspired Teaching, and Washington Yu Ying.
