The popular storytelling blog, Humans of DC, featured stories of educators and students at City Arts & Prep PCS (formerly known as William E. Doar Jr. PCS for the Performing Arts or WEDJ). "Our school is a big elationship school and we've had to work hard to build these relationships. Some of these relationships have sustained even after the kids students have graduated...Our school is working really hard to nurture the whole student and not just focus on the student from the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.," said a City Arts & Prep PCS educator. A new white paper released by the DC Public Charter School Board examines the joint approach between the authorizer and public charter school to decrease out-of-school suspension rates and highlights strategies put in place by three DC public charter school networks - Center City PCS, Cesar Chavez PCS, and Friendship PCS. Meet our New Board Member, Saba Bireda |
Saba Bireda joined the board on June 20 and will serve until February 24, 2019. Over the course of her impressive career, Ms. Bireda has served as a teacher at Sousa Middle School and at the UDC School of Law and, more recently, she has served as a policy advisor and senior counsel to the US Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights. September 19 - Board Meeting The Board will hold its next monthly meeting on September 19 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss various issues related to public charter schools and to hear from the public.
