Daniela Anello, Head of School at DC Bilingual PCS, recently gave an interview to a Latin American TV news channel, NTN24. During the interview, Anello reflected on why she is committed to the work she and her staff do each day for their students and families. Anello, a first-generation immigrant, is bilingual and Latina, and her background is similar to many of the students DC Bilingual PCS serves. This, she says, helps motivate her to ensure that her students have the same opportunities she had. | Capital City PCS Students Perform and Protest on the National Mall |
| In early June, more than 130 2nd - 4th graders from Capital City PCS performed their original songs, art, and slam poetry on the National Mall as part of their spring arts expedition, Children's Voices of Protest. The arts showcase is the culmination of an in-depth study of historical and contemporary civil rights leaders, issues of injustice, and protests as a medium for positive change. Students performed their original protest art about gun violence, DACA, women's rights, LGBTQ rights and more and followed with a peaceful march around the National Mall. |
| DC Prep PCS's Director of High School Placement is an Honored Honoree |
| DC Prep PCS's Edgewood Middle Campus Director of High School Placement, Julie Moeller, was selected by Honored.org to be June's Honoree because of her work at DC Prep PCS. This national award shines a spotlight on the work of a teacher with a single student. As part of her award, Moeller received a $5,000 cash award and a $1,000 DonorsChoose.org gift card. Award-winning journalist and author Peter Bergen, a contributor to CNN and Vice President at New America, wrote about Moeller's story here, featuring DC Prep PCS alumnus Calvin Carmichael, who recently graduated Choate Rosemary Hall. |

| In May, the Cassandra S. Pinkney Foundation co-hosted a town hall with Eagle Academy PCS and DC PCSB about The 7%: Men of Color in K-12 Education. Men of color account for less than 7% of the teaching population in the United States, while students of color are projected to make up 54% of the population by 2024. Teachers of color serve as "mirrors" in the classroom where students can see themselves as educational leaders instead of "windows" where they are being taught through a cultural lens that is foreign to that of their own.
