KIPP DC Principal Wins Milken Educator Award
On October 8 at 10 am, KIPP DC Principal Jessica Cunningham attended what she believed to be a ribbon cutting ceremony. Surrounded by her students, staff, other DC education leaders, and her family, Ms. Cunningham was surprised with a $25,000 Milken Educator Award.
Dubbed the “Oscars of Teaching,” the Milken Educator Awards were established in 1987 by the Milken Family Foundation. The awards program rewards top educators around the country with $25,000 unrestricted awards.
According to their website, the awards are not “an accolade for lifetime achievement or the proverbial gold watch at the exit door”, the Milken Educator Awards target early-to-mid career education professionals for their already impressive achievements and, more significantly, for the promise of what they will accomplish in the future.” Congratulations, Principal Jessica Cunningham!
