New Charter School Applications 2015: Quality and Choice

The DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) received six applications to create new public charter schools. As part of the process, PCSB staff will review each application, conduct a capacity interview, and if applicable, visit existing programs or schools run by the applicant group.  PCSB has notified all Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners (ANCs) throughout the District and the public can submit written comments until 5pm on May 13. The Board will vote on May 18 and approved schools will open in the 2016-17 school year.

Since 2012, PCSB received 35 new charter school applications and approved 14 diverse school options. During the same time, 16 schools or campuses have closed or are scheduled to close because of academic reasons, all under PCSB oversight.
