Notice of Petition to Amend Charter: Additional Campus – Rocketship DC PCS

The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“DC PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a verbal request received by Rocketship DC Public Charter School (“Rocketship PCS”) on August 31, 2016 to add a second campus in Ward 7 beginning in SY 2017-2018.  

Rocketship PCS is currently in its first year of operation serving students in grades prekindergarten-3 through fifth at a single campus located in Ward 8.  Per the school’s charter agreement, DC PCSB conditionally approved Rocketship PCS to open a total of eight campuses, with the caveat that only the first two campuses are fully approved.  Each additional campus may only open if none of the school’s previous campuses achieve less than Tier 1 status on DC PCSB’s Performance Management Framework.  For its second campus, Rocketship PCS is proposing to open a site located at 4250 Massachusetts Ave, SE, which is located at the corner of Alabama Ave., SE and Massachusetts Ave., SE behind the New Macedonia Baptist Church in Ward 7.  If approved, the school’s target opening is August 1, 2017.

Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its Campus Locations.
