Notice of Petition to Amend Charter Facility - Creative Minds PCS
Vote Date
Summary
The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a request submitted by Creative Minds International Public Charter School (“Creative Minds PCS”) on May 4, 2015 to amend its charter to relocate to a new facility for school year 2015-2016.
Creative Minds PCS was established in 2012 with a mission to “offer students a rigorous education plan that provides them with the skills required for successful participation in a global society.” The school offers an inclusive learning community for a diverse student population that includes approximately 30% students with disabilities and approximately 25% economically disadvantaged students who qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. The school’s lease at its existing facility located at 3224 16th Street, NW in Ward 1 is scheduled to expire on July 31, 2015, and the space is too small for the growing school. As a result, Creative Minds PCS has noticed PCSB of its intent to relocate to the Sherman Building at 3700 North Capitol Street in Ward 5, effective August 1, 2015.
Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its location.
