Notice of Petition to Amend Charter: Goals and Academic Achievement Expectations – Children’s Guild DC PCS

Due Date

October 17, 2016

Vote Date

November 21, 2016

Summary

The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a verbal request submitted by Children’s Guild DC Public Charter School on September 1, 2016 to amend its charter by revising its existing goals and academic achievement expectations.

Children’s Guild PCS is currently in its second year of operation serving students in grades kindergarten through ninth. Given the school serves a large population of students with disabilities, Children’s Guild PCS is proposing to revise its existing goals so that DC PCSB may assess students’ progress based on a comparison between like-populations of students. Children’s Guild PCS is also proposing to remove its goal regarding the Fountas and Pinnell assessment, since the school now uses a more standardized assessment for growth known as iReady. Lastly, the school plans to modify its existing goal around the National School Climate Survey for Parents, in order to specify a target response rate for the survey and ensure validity of its results. If approved, the proposed goals changes will be effective for SY 2016-2017 and beyond.

Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its Goals and Academic Achievement Expectations.
