Notice of Petition to Amend Charter: National Collegiate Preparatory PCS
Vote Date
Summary
The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a request submitted by National Collegiate Preparatory Public Charter School (“National Collegiate PCS”) on 4/10/15 to amend it goals and academic achievement expectations and mission.
National Collegiate PCS is requesting to amend its existing goals and student academic achievement expectations by completely removing two goals, and by adding two new mission-specific goals related to the school’s International Baccalaureate (“IB”) program. A copy of the school’s proposed new goals is provided in a separate attachment on the PCSB website. In addition to amending its goals, the school is also requesting to amend its mission statement so that it more accurately reflects the school’s primary focus, which is to give students the opportunity to participate in the IB program, rather than require a certain number of students to receive the IB diploma. The school’s proposed new mission statement will read as follows: The mission of our public charter high school is to offer a rigorous standards-based college preparatory curriculum, to maximize our students’ academic achievement, provide an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines international studies themes that would offer an opportunity for an International Baccalaureate(IB) education, and prepare our students to be self-directed, lifelong learners equipped to be engaged citizens of their school, community, country, and world.
Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its goals and mission.
