Vote Date
Summary
The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“DC PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a request submitted by Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School (“Shining Stars PCS”) on April 1, 2016 to relocate to a new facility in Ward 5.
Shining Stars PCS opened in school year 2011-2012 with the mission to “offer a quality Montessori education infused with culturally inclusive principles to guide children to develop to their fullest potential.” The school currently serves students in grades prekindergarten-3 through fourth, and beginning next school year the school will add fifth grade. Shining Stars PCS is seeking an amendment to relocate to a facility in Ward 5 at 1240 Randolph Street, NE, Washington DC 20017, beginning in school year 2016-2017. The proposed new facility will include a 10-year lease with Howard University, which will provide Shining Stars PCS with a long-term facility that is large enough to accommodate the school’s growing student population.
Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its location.
