Notice of Petition to Amend Operator Agreement - Additional Facility

Due Date

July 20, 2015

Vote Date

August 17, 2015

Summary

The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a verbal request submitted by District of Columbia International Public Charter School (“DCI PCS”) on June 2, 2015 to amend its operator agreement by adding a new facility in School Year (“SY”) 2015-2016.

On July 21, 2014, PCSB approved DCI PCS to be recognized as a single local education agency (“LEA”) under local and federal law as a joint charter school with all the same duties, powers and responsibilities of a public charter school.  Currently, DCI PCS is comprised of the following five public charter schools: DC Bilingual Public Charter School (“DC Bilingual PCS”), Elsie Whitlow Stokes Public Charter School (“Stokes PCS”), Latin American Montessori Bilingual Public Charter School (“LAMB PCS”), Mundo Verde Public Charter School (“Mundo Verde PCS”), and Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School ("Yu Ying PCS").  Each of the aforementioned schools has been approved to contract with DCI PCS to provide education and other services for grades 6-12, and currently they all co-locate at a single campus in Ward 1 to serve middle and high school students.  In an effort to provide more space for its growing student population, DCI PCS would like to operate at a second facility beginning in SY 2015-2016 located at the All Souls Church, 1500 Harvard Street, NW in Ward 1.  The proposed second facility is within walking distance of the school’s existing campus, so the school plans to operate at both facilities.  If approved, DCI PCS plans to have school staff walk students to and from the proposed new facility during the school day so that students may receive instruction and other services in both facilities.

Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its facility locations.
