Washington, DC - Today, Executive Director Dr. Michelle Walker-Davis and Board Chair Rick Cruz released the following statement about the decision of Hanseul Kang, the DC State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), to step down in October:

“When it comes to education, the public usually focuses on DCPS and DC public charter schools.  But there’s another important player that often works behind the scenes to ensure that so many of the essential components of public education - including testing, data collection, trainings, and so much more - operate efficiently and effectively.  For the last 5 plus years, Hanseul Kang has improved, organized, and led OSSE - and in doing so, improving educational outcomes for DC public school students and their families.  We will be sorry to see her go but wish her the best in her new endeavor.”
