We review financial information to see how well schools balance their checkbooks. High-performing schools ensure they have sufficient finances for the year plus any contingencies. In cases of low-rated schools, the Board works closely with a school's leadership for an improvement plan that ensures solvency.
The School Reform Act (or SRA) requires DC PCSB to conduct a charter review of each school at least every five years. We evaluate each school to determine whether it is meeting the charter goals and academic achievement expectations, legal compliance, and fiscal management requirements set forth in the charter agreement.
As part of our oversight efforts, we conduct an annual Compliance Review to ensure public charter LEAs comply with applicable laws and charter requirements.
DC PCSB approved ASPIRE, our academic accountability system. Read more about it here.
DC PCSB’s Performance Management Framework (or PMF) is used to produce the annual School Quality Report for each public charter school for which it provides oversight. DC PCSB uses the tool to review each school’s academic performance annually. Families can use the individual schools' report to find out how it is performing and use it as a resource when selecting a new school.
