Who We Are
DC PCSB is an independent government agency of the District of Columbia, created in 1996, led by a volunteer seven-member board. As the sole public charter school authorizer in our nation’s capital, we provide oversight to 134 public charter schools which are managed by 68 independently run nonprofit organizations called local education agencies.

An independent auditor conducts, in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America, an audit of DC PCSB's financial statements.

The Parent Alumni Leadership Council offers parents and charter school alumni the opportunity to learn about the Board’s mission and priorities.

School Reform Act
In 1995, The DC School Reform Act or the SRA was passed by the United States Congress, establishing public charter schools as a public school option for families in Washington DC. This Act created the DC Public Charter School Board, also referred to as DC PCSB.
