AppleTree: What School Readiness Looks Like in the Classroom
AppleTree Early Learning public charter schools spend a lot of time with young children. In fact, they only teach 3- and 4-year–olds and focus on getting them ready for kindergarten. They have seven sites serving more than 640 children in each of the city’s four quadrants. Children who graduate from AppleTree programs have strong academic and social skills they need in kindergarten and beyond.
Jack McCarthy, President/CEO of AppleTree Institute appeared on yesterday's The Kojo Nnamdi Show where he discussed the school readiness and the preparation gap. Jack said the goal of education is to provide all students with an equal opportunity to succeed in school and life, and teachers have to have a way from the first time a child enters a classroom to make sure they are doing their jobs.
