Board Revokes the Charter of Community Academy PCS
PCSB voted 5-0 today to revoke the charter of Dorothy I. Height Community Academy Public Charter School (CAPCS). The reasons for this decision are outlined here.
Throughout this process, PCSB’s number one concern has been the continuation of the education of CAPCS students. The Board is committed to working cooperatively with CAPCS, the District, the City Council, Friendship PCS, and other interested parties to ensure that these students complete this school year with minimal, if any, interruptions and have options and guarantees for the next school year. With the March 2 deadlines for the My School DC common lottery approaching, PCSB will do everything it can to ensure that families have clarity and support from PCSB prior to that date.
PCSB set a revocation date of June 30 and expects the CAPCS board and management to operate the school responsibly through the end of this school year, and to constructively support efforts to ensure that alternative arrangements are made for all CAPCS students for next year. PCSB will monitor this closely and take actions pursuant to its statutory authority if necessary to ensure that the best interests of the students and families are respected.
