May 1 marks the beginning of National Charter Schools Week, and students, parents, teachers, and in DC and across the country will celebrate the many successes of public charter schools.

To kick off the week’s celebrations, let’s test your knowledge about public charter schools – TRUE or FALSE?

Public charter schools are public schools. TRUE. Public charter schools are tuition-free and open to all students.
Public charter schools provide families with choice. TRUE. Choice means that families can pick from dozens of unique public charter schools which offer new, innovative, and different approaches to learning.
Public charter schools are nonprofits.  TRUE. Public charter schools must apply for a school charter through our Board. Although the mission of each school may vary depending on its academic focus area, all public charter schools must demonstrate academic success.

Did you get them all right?

Join us throughout out the week as we celebrate.  We’ll be celebrating public charter schools with our new friend, Flat Patrick. Flat Patrick will travel the city to a location near you! Find him here:
