Washington, D.C. —The DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) is accepting public comment on a proposed special education audit policy. The policy proposes four triggers that relate to enrollment, expulsion rates, out-of-school suspension rates, and exclusionary incidences of students with disabilities. These triggers may be used as evidence for PCSB staff to conduct audits of special education data. Depending on the trigger, the nature of the audit can range from comparing accuracy of data systems to conducting special education desk audits and/or Quality Assurance Reviews. This policy aims to identify and address discriminatory practices that may potentially be occurring against students with disabilities.
The public comment period opens January 29, 2013, and will close on Thursday February 28, 2013. A public hearing will be held during the board’s monthly meeting on Monday February 25, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the DC Public Charter School Board, 3333 14th Street, NW, Washington, DC.
To submit written comments, please email Isoken Igodan, [email protected], or mail them to DC Public Charter School Board, 3333 14th Street, NW, Suite 210, Washington, DC 20010.
