Washington, D.C. —The D.C. Public Charter School Board (PCSB) will host two community forums and enrollment fairs this week for the families of Nia Community Public Charter School and Ideal Academy Public Charter School. The community forum and enrollment fair for Nia Community will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at 100 41st Street, NE, Washington, DC 20032. The forum and enrollment fair for Ideal Academy will be held on Thursday May 27, 2011 at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at 6130 North Capitol Street, NW, Washington, DC 20011, for the families of the high school students. Both forums will assist families in identifying new school placements for the next school year.
The PCSB revoked the charter of Nia Community and the school will close at the end of the current school year. Ideal Academy decided to close its high school at the end of the current school year in response to a Board proposal to close the entire school. Ideal’s elementary and middle school will remain open.
Representatives from the PCSB will be available to address questions and concerns about the charter school closing processes currently underway for Nia. School representatives from selected charter and DCPS schools will share information about their programs and provide enrollment applications.
Nia Community and Ideal Academy are two of the 52 public charter schools that the D.C. Public Charter School Board currently oversees. Public charter schools now serve approximately 39% of all public school students in Washington, D.C. Learn more about PCSB at www.dcpubliccharter.com
