DC Charter Leaders and Educational Experts Discuss Common Core Standards and Student Achievement
As new Common Core standards are being implemented in school districts across the country, DC’s charter authorizer, the Public Charter School Board (PCSB), and Fight For Children, hosted a day-long symposium, “Ahead of the Curve: What Leaders Need to Know to Implement Common Core State Standard in DC,” aimed at giving school leaders the tools needed to fully integrate these programs and policies into curricula and instruction. PCSB’s Executive Director Scott Pearson welcomed charter school leaders, educational experts and thought leaders. After the welcome participants discussed ways for school leaders to fully align Common Core goals with the DC Comprehensive Assessment System (DC CAS) that could ensure each student’s success.
Using the hashtag #aheadofthecurve, attendees had this to say about the event:
- Great panel at #aheadofthecurve – learned a lot about common core and the road ahead @fight4children
- Ecstatic attendees and presenters alike are open about areas of growth today. Candid conversations will help us all improve.
- Common core is an opportunity for inquiry and growth
- Great question by PCSB’s ED Scott Pearson about lessons learned from New York City implementation
This symposium is part of Fight For Children’s Quality Schools Initiative Collaborative Learning Series.
