Washington, D.C. — The DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) voted February 27 not to revoke the charter of Integrated Design Electronics Academy (IDEA) Public Charter School. Instead, the PCSB voted to continue IDEA’s charter based on a “Conditions for Continuance Agreement,” which outlines the school’s ambitious turnaround plan.

“The plan IDEA has presented to us is comprehensive in scope and the leadership team appears committed and prepared for the hard work of turning around the school,” said PCSB Board Chair Brian W. Jones. “The PCSB intends to work closely with IDEA leaders as they address the large challenges they have before them.”

Last December, the PCSB voted to propose revocation of IDEA’s charter based on the school’s 10-year history of significant deficiencies in student achievement in both reading and math.

IDEA is a Tier 3 school scoring 29.3% in middle school and 30.9% in high school performance on PCSB’s Performance Management Framework (PMF). IDEA is located in the Deanwood area of Ward 7 and currently serves 312 students in grades 7-12. The PCSB will closely monitor the milestones outlined in the agreement as well as the academic performance of the IDEA students.

IDEA is one of 53 public charter schools on 98 campuses that the DC Public Charter School Board currently oversees. Nearly 32,000 students attend these charter schools and live in every ward of the city.

Public charter schools serve 41% of all public school students in Washington, D.C. Learn more about the PCSB and the Performance Management Framework at www.dcpubliccharter.com.
