Eagle Academy Public Charter School Board informed the DC Public Charter School Board and the Eagle Academy community late yesterday that Eagle has relinquished its charter. Without a charter, Eagle will close.
The closing of Eagle Academy will be a difficult time for students and their families, as well as Eagle employees. The DC Public Charter School Board will do all we can to help assist with the transition to a new school and place of employment.
DC PCSB has already begun the next steps. We are working with Eagle Academy to organize enrollment fairs with Eagle Academy students and their families to help them find and enroll in new schools for this school year. In addition, we are also working to organize job fairs for Eagle Academy employees to find new positions. We will soon have - and share - more information on both initiatives.
Please see the letter Eagle Academy PCS has provided to families here.

The DC Public Charter School Board rejected the proposal from Friendship Public Charter School to acquire the charter of Eagle Public Charter School.
Every public charter school (PCS) in Washington DC operates under a charter, which is an agreement between the board of the LEA (local education agency) and the board of DC PCSB. The charter lays out the operating requirements for the LEA.
The vote last night means that Eagle Academy will continue to operate under its charter.
However, DC PCSB’s Executive Director announced during the Board meeting that DC PCSB plans to vote to revoke Eagle Academy’s charter due to fiscal mismanagement. Before that happens, there will be a yet-to-be-scheduled public hearing at which families and others can voice their opinion on a proposed revocation of Eagle Academy’s charter.
Further updates will be provided here and on our social media channels, @dcpcsb on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
