Enrollment Ceiling Increase - Briya PCS
The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a request submitted by Briya Public Charter School (“Briya PCS”) on January 8, 2016 to amend its charter by increasing its enrollment beginning in school year 2016-17.
Briya PCS is currently in its 10th year of operation providing educational services using a family engagement model for adult learners and their children in grades prekindergarten-3 and prekindergarten-4. The school currently functions as one campus that operates across two facilities, and beginning in school year 2016-17 Briya PCS will operate at a third facility that was recently awarded to the school by the Deputy Mayor for Education (“DME”). Briya PCS’s existing enrollment ceiling is 586 students, and the school is requesting to increase its enrollment ceiling by 65 students in school year 2016-2017 to accommodate the additional students that will be served at its newest facility. In school year 2017-18 the school requests an increase of an additional 120 students that will be spread across its three facilities, and each school year thereafter the school plans to gradually increase its enrollment across its three facilities until it reaches a maximum enrollment ceiling of 902 students by school year 2020-21.
Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its Goals and Academic Achievement Expectations.
