Goals and Academic Achievement Expectations - Meridian PCS
The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a verbal request submitted by Meridian Public Charter School (“Meridian PCS”) on January 7, 2016 to amend its charter by revising one of its existing goals and academic achievement expectations.
Meridian PCS is currently in its 16th year of operation serving students in grades prekindergarten-3 through eighth. The school is requesting to amend one of its goals and student academic achievement expectations in order to align with the assessments the school currently reports on for its early childhood program for DC PCSB’s Performance Management Framework (“PMF”). As a result of the school’s 15-Year charter renewal process in school year 2012-13, Meridian PCS adopted a number of charter goals that would reflect the school’s progress in reading and math, including a math goal around the STAR Math Enterprise assessment for its early childhood program. However, for the 2015-16 school year the school chose a different assessment, the SAT-10 assessment, to report on for its early childhood math program for the PMF. In order to decrease the number of assessments for students and to better align accountability, the school would like to revise its existing math goal for its early childhood program by changing its assessments from the STAR Math Enterprise assessment to the SAT-10 assessment.
Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its Goals and Academic Achievement Expectations.
