Goals and Academic Achievement Expectations - YouthBuild PCS

February 22, 2016

The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a verbal request submitted by YouthBuild Public Charter School (“YouthBuild PCS”) on January 7, 2016 to amend its charter by revising its existing goals and academic achievement expectations.

YouthBuild PCS is currently in its 11th year of operation serving adult students at a single campus in Ward 1.  Its target population consists of students ages 16 -24 who have dropped out or aged out of traditional high schools.  YouthBuild PCS is requesting to revise its goals and student academic achievement expectations by including new goals that focus on the following: Student progress tailored to adult learners; the General Education Development (GED) assessment; Employment and postsecondary outcomes; Attendance and retention; and the school proposes to add one mission-specific goal related to its construction program.

Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its Goals and Academic Achievement Expectations.
