Impact of COVID-19 on Accountability

March 24, 2020

During tonight's board meeting, Chairman Cruz made remarks about the impact of COVID-19 on school accountability.

During tonight's board meeting, Chairman Rick Cruz made the following statement about the impact of COVID-19 on school accountability:

"We’re looking at all aspects of our accountability systems, including the Performance Management Framework, our Financial Analysis Report, individual school goals, the standards for reviews and renewals, compliance expectations with DC PCSB policies and federal and local laws, and specific conditions that certain schools are held to.

"Our goal is to assess what changes need to be made in response to this unprecedented situation."

"As part of this process, we will hold listening sessions with school leaders to learn more about their perspectives and ideas on accountability, academics, testing, for this year and next year. Our goal to provide concrete suggestions for this board at our April meeting that we open for public comment. We can hold a public hearing on this in May and a vote in June.

"However it may be that some changes need to be made more quickly, in which case we could accelerate this schedule."
