Washington, D.C. — The DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) will hold an informal public hearing on Thursday February 2, 2012 at 6:00 pm concerning the proposed revocation of the charter for Integrated Design Electronics Academy Public Charter School (“IDEA”).  The public hearing will be held at IDEA, located at 1027 45th Street, NE Washington, DC, 20019.  The hearing is open to the public.

The DC Public Charter School Board (“PCSB” or the “Board”) voted on December 19, 2011 to approve a proposal to revoke the charter of Integrated Design Electronics Academy Public Charter School (“IDEA”).  The proposal to revoke the charter of IDEA focused on the school’s 10-year history of low performance in student achievement in both reading and math.  IDEA is a Tier 3 school scoring 29.3% in middle school and 30.9% in high school performance on the PCSB’s performance management framework (PMF).

IDEA will have the opportunity to present thirty minutes of testimony to the Board at the public hearing concerning the proposed revocation.  There will then be a one hour question and answer session between the Board and IDEA.  Thirty minutes will be allotted for public comment.  During this time, individuals may present up to two minutes of oral testimony to the Board, or may submit written comments to the Board to be placed in the record.  Persons wishing to testify at this hearing should contact the PCSB at 202-328-2660 by 2:00 pm on Thursday February 2, 2012.

The PCSB will render a written decision on the revocation proposal within 30 days after the conclusion of the hearing.

IDEA is one of the 53 public charter schools on 98 campuses which the DC Public Charter School Board oversees. These schools serve more than 32,000 students living in every ward of the city. Public charter schools serve 42% of all public school students in Washington, D.C. Learn more about the performance management framework and the PCSB at www.dcpubliccharter.com
