Washington, D.C. — The D.C. Public Charter School Board (PCSB) will hold an informal hearing on the proposed revocation of Ideal Academy Public Charter School on Thursday April 28, 2011 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. The hearing will be held at the school at 6130 North Capitol Street NW, Washington, DC 20011. The hearing is open to the public.
The PCSB voted on March 30th in favor of a proposal to begin the process of revoking the school’s charter. The unanimous decision was based on violations of the terms of Ideal’s charter agreement and applicable law. Ideal exercised its option to an informal hearing to respond to the proposal and will make its case to remain open before the Board and community members.
The public is welcome to testify in favor of or against the proposal, and will have up to two minutes to speak. Persons wishing to testify at this hearing should contact the PCSB at 202-328-2660 by 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 27th.
After the conclusion of the informal hearing, the Public Charter School Board will have up to 30 days to render a final decision on the proposed revocation during a public meeting.
The D.C. Public Charter School Board currently oversees 52 public charter schools on 93 campuses serving more than 29,000 students from every ward of the city. Public charter schools now serve approximately 39% of all public school students in Washington, D.C. Learn more about PCSB at www.dcpubliccharter.com
