Washington, D.C. — The D.C. Public Charter School Board (PCSB) will hold an informal hearing on the proposed revocation of Kamit Institute for Magnificent Achievers Public Charter School
(Kamit) on Monday July 26, 2010, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The hearing will be held at Paul Public Charter School, 5800 8th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20011, and is open to the public.

The PCSB voted June 21, 2010, in favor of a proposal to revoke the charter of Kamit.  The unanimous decision was based on violations of the school’s charter and applicable law. Kamit exercised its option to an informal hearing to respond to the proposal, notifying the Board on July 14th.

The public is welcome to testify in favor of or against the proposal, and will have up to two minutes to speak.  Persons wishing to testify at this hearing should contact the PCSB at 202-328-2660 by 2:00 pm on Monday July 26, 2010.

After the conclusion of the informal hearing, the Public Charter School Board will have up to 30 days to render a final decision on the proposed revocation during a public meeting.

The D.C. Public Charter School Board currently oversees 53 public charter schools on 95 campuses, serving approximately 28,000 students living in every ward of the city.  Public charter schools now serve 38 percent of all public school students in Washington, D.C.
