John H. “Skip” McKoy, former DC PCSB board chair, received DC Public Charter School Board’s Award for Excellence on Monday April 18 during the agency’s regularly scheduled board meeting for his contributions to public education in the city.
Skip has dedicated nearly 40 years of service in the District of Columbia. He served as the city’s Director of Planning, the President of DC Agenda, Chief Operating Office of the Anacostia Waterfront Corporation, Director of Programs for Fight for Children, and most recently the chairman of DC Public Charter School Board from 2013 to 2015 and contributed a total of seven years on the DC Public Charter School Board. On the board McKoy fought to improve educational outcomes for DC students and families.
The DC PCSB's Award for Excellence acknowledges an individual who has made positive contributions to the Board through volunteer effort. McKoy is the first to receive this award.
“He’s made me better, he’s made all of us better, he’s made us better as a sector and for that I am thrilled for this opportunity so thank you Skip,” said Don Soifer, DC Public Charter School Board Vice Chair during the award’s presentation.
