The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (DC PCSB) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comments on the DC public charter schools listed below, which are up for a charter review on January 23, 2023. Pending DC PCSB staff’s analysis, the Board may elect to do one of the following for schools up for review: 1) continue the school’s charter without conditions, 2) conditionally continue the school’s charter by imposing annual or interim targets or requirements it must meet, or 3) commence charter revocation proceedings.
1. DC Preparatory Academy Public Charter School (DC Prep PCS)
DC Prep PCS is up for its 20-year charter review. The school operates six campuses in Wards 5, 7, and 8, where it serves students in grades PK3 – 8. Its mission is to “bridge the educational divide in Washington, DC by increasing the number of students from underserved communities with the academic preparation and personal character to succeed in competitive high schools and colleges.”
2. Eagle Academy Public Charter School (Eagle PCS)
Eagle PCS is up for its 20-year charter review. The school operates two campuses in Wards 6 and 8, where it serves students in grades PK3 – 3. Its mission is to “build the foundation for a promising future for all students in a rich, robust learning environment that fosters creativity and problem-solving abilities, emphasizing cognitive, social, and emotional growth by engaging children as active learners in an inclusive learning environment.”
3. Latin American Montessori Bilingual Public Charter School (LAMB PCS)
LAMB PCS is up for its 20-year charter review. The school operates a single campus across two facilities in Wards 4 and 5. The school serves students in grades PK3 – 5. Its mission is to “create a self-directed learning environment in which children build a foundation of knowledge essential for a lifetime of learning while developing biliteracy in English and Spanish.”
4. SEED Public Charter School of Washington, DC (SEED PCS)
SEED PCS is up for its 25-year charter review. The school operates a single campus in Ward 7 where it serves students in grades 9 – 12. Its mission is to “provide an outstanding intensive residential education program to at-risk inner-city children that prepares them, both academically and socially, for success in college and/or in the professional world.”
Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., DC PCSB is required to review each DC public charter school’s performance at least once every five years.
