Notice of Petition to Amend Charter: Enrollment Ceiling Increase and Bylaws-Inspired Teaching PCS
Vote Date
Summary
The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a request submitted by Inspired Teaching Demonstration Public Charter School (“Inspired Teaching PCS”) on October 2, 2015 to amend its charter by increasing its enrollment ceiling a beginning in school year 2016-2017.
The school also submitted notification to PCSB of its intent to amend its bylaws. However, a bylaws amendment does not require public notice, so PCSB is not accepting public comments for that portion of the school’s charter amendment request.
Inspired Teaching PCS has been in operation since school year 2011-2012. The school currently serves students in grades prekindergarten-3 through seventh grade, and will add one grade each year until it reaches capacity with eighth grade in school year 2016-17. Inspired Teaching PCS is requesting to increase its enrollment ceiling, because only the first 5 years of the school’s enrollment were included in its original charter agreement. As a result, the school is proposing to increase its existing enrollment ceiling from 342 students to an ultimate ceiling of 520 students.
Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its enrollment ceiling.
