Notice of Petition to Amend Charter: Enrollment Ceiling Increase - Monument Academy PCS

Due Date

June 20, 2016

Vote Date

June 20, 2016

Summary

The District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (“DC PCSB”) announces an opportunity for the public to submit comment on a request submitted by Monument Academy Public Charter School (“Monument PCS”) on April 20, 2016 to increase its enrollment ceiling beginning in school year 2016-2017.

Currently in its first year of operation, Monument PCS’s mission is “to provide students, particularly those who have had or might have contact with the foster care system, with the requisite academic, social, emotional, and life skills to be successful in college, career, and community, and to create an outstanding school that attracts, supports, and retains exceptional and caring people.” The school is seeking an enrollment ceiling increase of three additional students per grade level, and, if approved, will have authorization to serve 86 students beginning in school year 2016-17, with a maximum enrollment of 172 students in school year 2018-19.

Pursuant to the School Reform Act, D.C. Code 38-1802 et seq., a charter school must submit a petition to revise its charter, which includes its enrollment ceiling.
