Roots PCS Student Named 2014 Dr. Ben Carson Scholar
Jihad Miller, an 8th grader at Roots PCS, was selected as a Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin S. Carson Scholar for his academic achievement and humanitarian work. He was honored at the 18th annual awards banquet held in Baltimore, MD earlier this month. The event was emceed by legendary newscaster Sam Donaldson, and attendees included actor Kirk Cameron and Baltimore Oriole All-Star Brooks Robinson.
The Carson Scholars was founded by world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson and his wife, Candy. The program awards students in grades 4 to 11 with $1000 scholarships.
According to their website, the Carson Scholars is "dedicated to impacting the nation in a positive way by cultivating future leaders who are academically talented and socially conscious."
