As School Continues Online, Public Charter Schools Report the Number of Hard-to-Reach Students
There are 1,334 students in the charter sector that schools have not made contact with since school buildings closed due to the pandemic, based on an analysis conducted by the DC Public Charter School Board. Of those, 119 students are special education (8.9%); and 363 of the unreachable students are adult education students.
The DC Public Charter School Board defines a student as unreachable if the student has not engaged with any of the mechanisms used by the school to measure student participation in distance learning, such as logging on to online platforms or responding to emails or phone calls. Additionally, the student has been unresponsive to targeted outreach by the school’s staff.
