Student Fair Access to School Act of 2017

Description: As introduced, this bill requires DC Public Schools and charter schools to establish parameters for discipline policies by including limits on the use of suspensions, expulsions, and reporting.

  • Requires school discipline policies to conform to certain standards
  • Ban schools from suspending students through 8th grade with few exceptions
  • Limits suspensions in grades 8-12 for a variety of incidents
  • Prevents a school from taking action against a student for issues arising off of school property
  • Limits instances where a student can be expelled
