On June 16th and 17th, two members of the State University of New York charter authorizer team visited the DC Public Charter School Offices and learned about the great work we are doing to improve the quality of education in Washington, DC.
They began their visit by meeting with PCSB’s Executive Director Scott Pearson and Deputy Director Naomi Rubin DeVeaux. During this informational meeting, the group discussed the overall outlook for charter schools in DC and New York as well as the development and implementation of performance management frameworks. Our guests were particularly interested in our process and framework for evaluation as well as the successes of our alternative accountability, adult and early childhood programs.
Due to their interest in early childhood programs, the PCSB staff set up a walk through and chat with several members of the AppleTree Early Learning PCS team. While on the tour, the visitors got to see how they are implementing the early childhood PMF and learned about how they are innovating early childhood education.
Following their trip to AppleTree, the visitors got to hear from Erin Kupferberg, Avni Patel and Rashida Tyler about the work they are doing to develop the performance management frameworks for alternative accountability, adult and early childhood programs, as well as the process for developing new charter school programs.
Congratulations to the PCSB staff for becoming a model of innovation and a quality resource for public public charter school networks across the country.
