Twenty-three Groups Express Interest in Opening a DC Charter School
Twenty-three applicants from California, Connecticut and right here in DC, plan to submit an application to open a public charter school in Washington, DC.
Applicants are not required to submit a letter of intent prior to submitting a completed application by 5 p.m. on March 6. During the previous charter application cycle, 22 applicants planned to apply but only eight ultimately submitted applications. Of those, the Board only approved three applications.
The applicants intending to apply propose to offer a wide variety of curriculums and programs, ranging from arts immersion to alternative education programs serving disengaged youth. If approved the schools will open in the 2016-17 school year.
Once PCSB receives the applications, the public will have an opportunity to read the applications, hear from the applicants at a public hearing, and comment on the applications in writing or testify at the public hearing
