Two DC Charter Students Accepted to Prestigious Service Academies
July is an important month to reflect and honor the men and women who are currently serving in the armed forces and also show support for the nation’s youth who have elected to serve this country by enlisting or joining a service academy.
And this year, one DC public charter school has gone above and beyond to show their support for the military by successfully preparing two students for acceptance into two of our nation's largest service academies.
The two graduates of Washington Latin PCS—James Blanford and Mikail Harrison—were accepted at the US Coast Guard Academy and US Military Academy Prep School. This accomplishment really speaks to the good work of the school and it its administrators to not only prepare them for university studies but also to become the first student to be accepted to USMA from a DC charter school as well as the first public school student in at least the past five years to be offered admission.
In addition to the honor of being accepted to these prestigious universities, the students also received glowing letters of recommendation from the DC Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton.
Congratulations to the two graduates for this great accomplishment and special thanks to Washington Latin’s hard work in preparing these two students for their future in the military.
