School Fiscal Audits

Fiscal audits for public charter schools ensure financial integrity by reviewing expenditures, revenues, and compliance with regulations. These audits provide transparency, build trust among relevant parties, and help maintain accountability in financial management. Detailed audit reports are published, below, annually, offering insights into each school's financial health and operational efficiency.

District of Columbia School Reform Act of 1995

Congress opened the door for public charter school in the nation’s capital when it passed the DC School Reform Act of 1995 and all public charter schools in the District of Columbia are authorized under the DC Code. The DC Public Charter School Board is an independent body governed by the School Reform Act, which is codified in Title 38, Subtitle IV, Chapter 18. View the DC Code.

Charter Reviews and Renewals

Public charter schools are held accountable for academic achievement. The School Reform Act requires DC PCSB to conduct a charter review of each school at least every five years. After 15 years in operation, each school is required to submit a renewal application requesting to renew its charter for another 15-year term.

Attendance and Truancy Policy

DC PCSB is not enforcing the Attendance and Truancy Policy during the 2025–26 school year—meaning Notices of Concern related to attendance will not be issued during this period. This pause reflects our collective recognition that the current policy needs to be revised to better align with today’s realities. During this time, DC PCSB staff will be engaging school leaders, experts, and community members to redesign the policy. For more information, please contact Blair Daniel at [email protected].
